Creating Imaginative Environments

To me, fantasy and the development of the imagination are an integral part of growing up. As teachers we are often heard to say, "capture their interest and you are away", but for how long? I discovered something very special in a classroom one year—a way to harness this creative force to create a sustained imaginative environment in which deep learning flourished. I wrote about this experience in a book and ever since it was published, I've heard from many teachers who are also using the imagination as a vital force in education. Teaching as a
​Way of Life

I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was 16. I had been persuaded by the vicar’s wife, to teach a Sunday school class in the village church. She told me it was easy; I would be given a set of Bible study worksheets and that was that. I followed instructions for a few weeks and then realised how unbelievably boring the task was for young children. So I did something different.
